Apple Pie!

I hit the grocery store for some basic stuff and saw a BOGO on sacks of apples. So I got 10lbs of gala apples for $4.99. Feeling a little Lighter, I decided to make a pie. I got home, peeled, cored and sliced apples for an hour or so. I went to make the crust, but realized I had forgotten to pick up butter…… OK so Lard it is! So I made this Super Thick Apple pie, and let me say it is WONDERFUL!! I will be taking the rest of it to Mom’s tomorrow to share during trick or treating, as we will need a lot of energy. Her block is so popular that people come in vans and even have 2 large tow trailers converted into people movers! I will be making this one again for sure.

Because I didnt have any butter, I used this recipe. It is SUPER flaky. It is a little hard to get the bottom shell to stay in the pan as it wasnt fluted at all.


And here is the filling recipe I used. I cooked the filling separately and then filled the crust with it, put the top crust on, egg washed it and baked for 45 minutes.
